This has been a crazy week to see my GAME plan in action. My students are taking MAP tests, which occur three times a year. They are a great assessment tool; however, they require the computer lab for 2 weeks. It also jumbles our daily schedule. I am sad to say my action plan has not been the top priority this week. We have not worked towards our technology goals - Webquests or digital tool exploration. I have had to be flexible and adjust my class schedule to accomodate testing in the computer lab, as well as other activities that 'interrupt' our school day.
I have definitely learned that for goals to be accomplished, they have to be purposefully planned. Goals will not be met if I rely on "when I have time" or "whenever". I have to PLAN for the mobile lab.
I still need to model Webquests for my students. Dr. Krauss offered advice on doing a Webquest as a class using my SMARTboard. This will be something I am going to plan in the next two weeks before Christmas break. I may try incorporating this modeling process with my PBL Unit Plan. Since this is a first for me - Webquests AND Problem-Based Learning - combining them may be a good learning experience. I am looking forward to experiencing this new learning with my students.
Jenelle,
ReplyDeleteA good place to go to learn about web quests is webquest.org. I believe this website was created by the professors from San Diego State University who created the whole idea of web quests. This should help you greatly in your search for information on how to create a webquest and also give you a place to find already created webquests.
Hi Jenelle,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are having the typical week of a teacher - a fun filled week of just about everything that you can think of. It's funny how sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomach (in our hunger to do more). I'm sure you will be very successful when you get to your GAME plan; it just can be tough to find the time to get it done. I too am hoping to have the time (and ability) to be successful in my GAME plan of going to conferences as a professional development tool this spring. Right now our state (New York) is preparing for a number of mid-year budget cuts that may prevent me from going to these conferences. Even if I decided to pay for them on my own rather than having the district pay for them, I do not even know if I would get approved to have a substitute for those days. So I like you may have to adjust my plan down the road.
Jenelle,
ReplyDeleteI can relate with you in regards to the time issue in implementing the GAME plan. It seems as though each day something unexpected comes up, or things have to be adjusted to fit the "extra" things into the school day. It can be very frustrating at times, that is why the GAME plan must take these issues into account and find manageable ways to overcome these obstacles. Your idea of combining webquests into your problem-based learning activity sounds both excellent and brilliant. Good luck with the continuation of your GAME plan, and with the project-based learning activity.
Alicia
